History:

Before Akane was even born, her father Soun made a deal with his best friend, Genma Saotome, that one of his daughters would marry Genma's son. Their plan was in part to united the families into one family, but also to raise powerful disciples to carry on the school of Anything Goes Martial Arts, of which Soun and Genma were nearly the sole practitioners. Soun thus spent his life running a dojo, while Genma took his son Ranma out to spend his life training in the arts. Unfortunately, although Soun ultimately was blessed with three daughters, his wife died when the youngest girl was still very small and Soun was left to raise all three girls on his own.

Akane - the youngest of the three Tendo sisters - grew up without much of a womanly influence in the house, aside from her eldest sister Kasumi. Under her father's guidance she took to martial arts, and trained until she was the best female martial artist in Nerima. Through much of her childhood, she was quite the tomboy, wearing her hair short and getting into fights with the boys in her class, until Kasumi told her that her favourite doctor - Tofu Ono - wouldn't like her anymore if she acted too much like a boy. Akane, struck by this, decided to try to be more like Kasumi, at least in looks. She grew her hair long, and fought less - or tried to, anyway.

Being both strong and pretty, Akane attracted a lot of male attention, though she wasn't interested in them in return. The most smitten, Tatewaki Kuno, pronounced that because Akane was so athletic, anyone who wished to date her would first have to defeat her in combat. After that, getting to school became an irritation to Akane, since a rush of boys would attack her on a daily basis. Her opinion of boys in general fell even lower, and she devoted herself more intently to the study of martial arts, confident that she could beat any guy who attempted to take her on. Then one day, her father announced to her and her sisters that his old friend Genma was coming, and bringing his son Ranma.
