Personality: Akane is most easily characterized by her extremely short temper. She does not respond well to criticism or even advice, unless solicited, and even then only when delivered in the gentlest way possible. She objects strenuously to being objectified, or to any remarks against women in general or herself in particular, and her first response to such comments is nearly always violence. She reacts by emotion first, often not thinking about what she's getting into, and as a result gets herself into rather heated situations. She also is amazingly competitive, perhaps even more so than Ranma, and can't stand letting someone else get the last word in an argument. She normally fixes this last problem by knocking out whoever the arguing opponent is so that he can't make any more retorts. *G* Akane desperately wants to be a traditional, nurturing girl as well as a martial arts superstar, but aside from her prowess at nearly anything athletic, she's stunningly bad at almost every traditional "homemaker" activity: she can't sew, she can't decorate, she can't clean, and her cooking is poisonous. Regardless, she soldiers on anyway, usually producing a finished product that is laughable and cute in its ineptitude... Unless it's the cooking, in which case, run away. Although she realizes she's bad at these things, she can't take criticism, and can't learn from her mistakes - mainly because she's impatient to start out great and get better. Akane attacks all her problems with energy and determination, but doesn't have much in the way of subtlety. Despite these shortcomings, Akane is a sweet girl who tries to do the right thing and is not afraid to admit she was wrong - if she realizes she was. Unfortunately, she's very stubborn, and usually will stick to however she sees a situation until she is forcibly shown another perspective. She will go out of her way to help people, even when she is mad at them, and even if it means risking her own life. Her first response to nearly anyone is kindness, although that can change in a heartbeat if she perceives any kind of affront. She stands by her friends, and rarely holds a grudge; even Ranma's Fiancˇe Squad are, technically, her friends (except Kodachi. 'Cause... well... that's dangerous), and if one offers a truce, she will take it cheerfully. Akane may give as well as she gets (and sometimes more than she gets), but she always starts out with the best of intentions. |
