Personality: Ranma is brusque, rather uncouth, tends toward having a potty mouth, and is essentially ill-mannered. He's an expert in all things martial arts, and knows it; the knowledge has given him something of a swelled head and an incredibly competitive nature. Ranma lives by martial arts, particularly the ones he grew up with - his fighting style, the Anything Goes school, teaches unpredictability and quick-thinking as well as lots of airborne attacks - and will drop anything to learn new techniques. He generally doesn't consider people's feelings before he speaks or acts, and can be inherently immature, both in his tendency to brag and his style of humour. On the other hand, Ranma is a genuinely good guy. His disposition is generally pretty cheerful, he likes to help out, and he dislikes seeing other people unhappy. Oddly enough, though Ranma is often the one who seems to delight in causing unhappiness, he never seems to mean the effects of it to be as far-reaching or longterm as they generally are. He is incredibly loyal, and even though he seems to have trouble letting anyone know that he cares about them, once he's on your side he's there for life. He likes to stand up for the little guy as much as he likes to (affectionately?) pick on them. He has a strange sense of honour as well: Ranma is impelled to do the right thing, even when he may want to do otherwise. He will grudgingly but sincerely apologize when he knows he's wrong, and he's essentially incapable of cheating - if Ranma can't win in a fair fight, it drives him crazy, but he's unable to be underhanded. On the other hand, the Anything Goes style encourages some rather questionable fighting moves, so maybe he's not quite as straight-and-narrow as one might think. *G* As a result of his training, Ranma is an extremely quick learner and is highly focused. Physically, he's a peak performer - fast, strong, and excellent reflexes. Mentally, he is just as quick, but can't apply knowledge very easily to anything outside martial arts. Ranma's intelligence is entirely street smarts; as much as he can think on his feet and develop a plan as he goes, his grades in school suffer. He dislikes staying still for any length of time, and although - like any teenage boy - he likes lounging around watching TV and eating junk food, the bulk of his time is spent training. |
