Personality: Tofu is a smart, soft-spoken, laid back kinda guy. But he also has a weird sense of humour and shows signs that he has pretty weak self-control. His attempts to tease Akane in a big-brotherly way are often, while meant well, awkwardly received. His method of playing matchmaker for Ranma and Akane is to pat hit a pressure point on Ranma's back to make his legs unexpectedly give out five minutes later. And then there's his penchant for rather bad puns. Then, of course, there's the other side of his personality; when Kasumi comes into sight, Tofu loses all semblance of normality. His glasses fog up and he goes into a state of something like euphoria, during which he injures innocent patients, breaks things, and dances with his medical skeleton whom he calls Betty-chan. Tofu is never aware of what he's doing when Kasumi is near. He's not even aware of it after it happens. He seems completely oblivious to the fact that he goes on semi-destructive rampages when he sees her, or else he'd certainly take precautions. As his patients say, when Kasumi is not nearby, he's normally "such a good doctor". His excellent bedside manner and sensitivity - not to mention boyish good looks - make him very popular in the neighbourhood with patients of all ages, including Akane, who has nursed a crush on him since elementary school, though she seems to give up on it once she meets Ranma. Tofu is also dedicated to helping Ranma learn more techniques and overcome any difficulties thrown his way by Cologne, Shampoo, or other enemies. Unfortunately, Dr. Tofu's presence dwindles in the manga and he's not really seen much (if at all) past, I'd say volume ten at the most, possibly much earlier. He shows up a bit more in the anime, but not in any lasting capacity. |
