Ranma ep 1.2: "School's No Place For Horsing Around!"
Summary | Dub & Animation | Notes & Comments | Screencaps
Random notes:
- It seems like Nerima is foggy in the morning a lot of the time; I remember that being a standard in this show.
- Watching Akane jog, I thought, she is just the cutest thing ever. Then Nabiki came down, all sleep-rumpled, and I thought, Akane's been replaced. XD
- Laughed myself silly over Kasumi, with the bamboo ready behind her back for Panda!Genma... Actually I was almost distracted from the look on Akane's face, which is just as funny. :D
- One of the interesting things about anime, I've found, is the tendency to contrast fast-paced scenes of action and/or comedy with slower-paced scenes in which normal, "everyday" things go on. Usually, for some reason, bathing or getting ready to go to school... things like that.
- *giggles* I always loved Ranma's face during the scene when Nabiki and Akane are talking about who's walking Ranma to school; he looks so adorably clueless. World of GUH. ^_~ They are SO determined not to like each other, even for a second, even as they get to know one another better and become actual friends.
- So, the phrase of this episode is "dai kirai" (I really hate [you]) - Akane says it about men in general, Kuno says it to Nabiki, and Ranma starts it all by saying it to Akane. But Ranma's the only one who draws attention to it - "DAI kirai da yo!" in the Big Jerk voice - probably 'cause he's the only one who is saying it just to be annoying. ^_~
- Random thought: I think Kappei, as Ranma, started using a slightly higher voice after a little bit of this character. Which is, like, the opposite of what I said of the girls for last episode. LOL...
- How come, if Tofu is such a strong martial artist, we never really see signs of that? We have to date never seen him fight anyone. He just pops in and knows pressure points, but he's never been shown to actual practice martial arts. Funny, that - Takahashi was probably going somewhere with the idea, or at least keeping it around in case ideas came from it, and they never did.
- All those guys attacking Akane seem like holdovers from "Urusei Yatsura". ;)
- GOD SHE'S GOOD! SQUEEEE! XD
- LOL - Kuno really is dramatic and cool and stuff at first appearance. Enjoy it, it goes quickly *G* HA! He "Kisama"'d Ranma! :D
- "Listen well, for I shall only say this once!" Yeah... riiiiight.
- Huh, so sometimes he does call Akane "Akane-kun". You so rarely hear him address her as anything but "Tendo Akane".
- Ranma's intro of himself is awesome. "Here, hold my bag a sec." Half of me thinks they should've translated it better - technically he did introduce his fighting school before his name, so he could've done a similar intro to Kuno's long-winded (and, apparently, new) title. On the other hand, Ranma's not a verbal show-off, he's a physical show-off; so it would've had to be a parody if they were gonna do that.
- Okay, "The vengeance of heaven is slow but sure" is definitely Kuno's favourite line: he uses it twice in this ep alone, and I know it keeps coming back. LOL!
- "If you want a violent, crazy chick like her, you can have her!" "How dare you, you pervert!" Okay, but um... how is he a pervert? did they translate that differently, somehow, or is she just referring back to how they met? ^_~
- Hmmmm - I think this ep is the single, only time we EVER see Kuno in a school uniform. ...*purrrr*
- That kanji name gag is a good one. It was murder to translate in the comics, too, since even if they could've made the deal out of the kanji, everything is flipped so the kanji would've been wrong. *G* Nabiki and Kuno's standoff... Just kiss already! *snerk*
- Kuno announced this at a speech contest?! Like a forensics club meeting? LOL! I guess he just wanted to take advantage of the fact that he was onstage at a podium, with everyone's attention. Sweetie... you are too much. ^_^
- Okay, am I hearing it wrong or is Ranma's line when he jumps out the window into the pool, "USO!" As in, lie? I guess that could translate as "you've gotta be kidding me!!" Man, there is so much about this language I don't get, but I love playing around with the dozen or so words I do know. ;)
- Next ep is the first one I saw, and has one of the great Kuno moments of all time, IMO... Upside down on a kettle of hot water. Yep. :D
