Ranma ep 1.3: "A Sudden Storm of Love... Hey, Wait a Minute!"
Summary | Dub & Animation | Notes & Comments | Screencaps
Random notes:
- The title in the dub (which is what I've seen almost every time I've watched this ep) is just the "storm of love" part. I was looking at the title on the disc and was like "is it really 'hey, wait a minute'?" And it is :D I understand that part better than the first half, which I can only assume does translate as "a sudden storm of love" or something similar. Funny thing: in the dub, Akane sounds mad sarcastic reading the title. ;)
- Ranma REALLY panics when Kuno tosses the bucket at him. Without knowing the reason for that, it probably made Kuno figure that Ranma was more of a coward than he first seemed - ready to fight before but dodging like a chicken now. It's so cute though. ^_~
- Weird thing about changing Akane's reaction to Ranma's fall from ep 2 to ep 3... she didn't call him "idiot" in the earlier ep.
- Ranma should just get a sign that says "squeeze here!" for all the groping she gets...
- How come Ranma's classmates wonder about Ranma's body appearing to shrink when he gets out of the pool? His HAIR COLOUR is entirely different - nobody's gonna notice that? ^_~
- I love how the Japanese version starts to imply that Kuno is smarter than we thought - "That was undoubtedly a WOMAN!" - and then turns around and is like "he escaped and left someone in his place!!" LOL! I do wonder though how come the dub changes that from "undoubtedly" to "I'm almost positive..." O_o
- YAY Akane!! Ranma, you SO owe her. XD
- Wow - Kuno's forward from the first meeting, hitting on her before he even knows her. Heh - Ranma says the exact same thing to Kuno about dating him that Akane does. ;) Uh Ranma... were those kicks necessary? LOL... She took his bokken!! That's gotta signify something!
- *snerk* "C'mon Akane... let's go home." "But we're in the middle of school!" And yet - she still FOLLOWS HIM HOME! Or so it would appear...
- Genma - thou art a drama queen. Hm - when Genma refers to himself as "your father" he uses the term "chichi", whereas Ranma uses the term "Oyaji" to address him. I wonder what is ascribed to those terms: is "chichi" like a noun whereas "oyaji" is like a title or name? Like, you wouldn't call your father "chichi" to address him, you'd only use that term in saying "that's my father" or something? Or is it just the term that Genma prefers? I have gotta learn this language. :D
- HEE. "No." He actually says "No" in Japanese to shut Genma up. :D Man, whatta great laugh *sigh* I heart me some Kappei...
- That moment with Kasumi is so weird. First time I saw this ep I didn't know what to think - it seems to have a sort of implied UST to it. Of course it doesnt' help any that the first time I saw this episode I had no idea who the characters were, and assumed that Kasumi was the mother. *giggle*
- Y'know, that scene where Ranma offers to help Akane fight off the suitors... that's rather sweet of him. Kinda arrogant, but sweet. ^_~
- "If the pigtailed one things she can humiliate Kuno and simply walk away, she be mistaken..." Nope, you humiliate Kuno, you've got a stalker for life! :D
- I'm not going to nitpick, but there's a scene towards the end where Akane's eyes are blue and for some reason that was the moment when I noticed her eye colour. Mostly to go "hey, I thought... aren't her eyes brown??" LOL, I checked back earlier in the ep, and they are. I guess she had contacts in just then. ;)
- In the dub, Kuno's lines about the sunset are translated so that he says that that moment is when the sunset is most beautiful - because it is when he arrives. In Japanese however, he doesn't seem to be directly saying that; he says both things (beautiful sunset, he has arrived) but only correlates them loosely, if at all. I'm not sure which version I prefer. ;)
- Y'know, every time I've seen that "suki da" scene - EVERY SINGLE TIME - I've cracked up. He's leaving... he's leaving... he's almost gone... GAH! HE'S BACK! ;)
- So next episode has one dub moment I'm looking forward to: the choo-choo train of "I-love-you-I-would-date-with-you!" *giggles*
