Ranma ep 1.4: "Ranma and... Ranma!? If It's Not One Thing, It's Another!"

Random notes:

  • Hee - Ranma is SO threatened by Kuno's affections. His constant reiteration of "I'm a GUY!" even when he's not is undercut by the fact that, in his subconscious, Kuno knows he's a guy but won't stop; he keeps calling him by his name. Man - look at all the nakey Kuno bits!! Slash OUT.
  • I always loved the reactions to "busy at his morning toilette, he said."
  • WWHY is that teacher animated *and* dubbed to look/sound like Governor Arnold?
  • Why does Kuno announce that things hurt all the time? Or is he actually saying "that didn't hurt"? It seems to me I've seen it translated that way, but don't recall if it was in the comic or in a fansub. He says (not sure of spelling) "ittai janai ka", both to Ranma in ep 3 and Nabiki in ep 4. Obviously he's only saying it in the first place because they're not attacks, and because they're both girls; he'd NEVER admit that to Ranma... But it seems more Kuno to keep up that bravado and be like "other guys might be injured by a severe blow to the head. But NOT ME!"
  • Heh heh. UST. *eg*Heh heh. UST. *eg*
  • Another great animation moment: background, as Nabiki gets home, of Soun freaking out over Genma's 'shogi' move.
  • Ah, Nabiki, you so bad! She not only takes explotative pictures of girl!Ranma while she's sleeping, she then turns him back and leaves him to sleep on a wet futon! And *SNERK* to his reaction :D
  • Kuno's letter - OH YES :D Lord, he signs his letters with his AGE as well as his name!! What the hell! *G*
  • Nice body language on Nabiki, when she crosses her legs under the table. She's got him where she wants him, and knows it, and she's entirely confident and relaxed about it.
  • "You will address me as 'Senpai'!" I think this is the first time he's said that. Funny part is that after a while, they all - Ranma included - give up, and start doing that. Well, not Nabiki, but she doesn't have to. ^_~
  • I think this ep is the first one to make deliberate, farcical use of the unlikely presence of water everywhere, too. That comes up so often later on, but hasnt' been used so much yet, and especially not so fast-paced as it is here.
  • Ranma's face when he's been turned into a girl, and Kuno finds him... she just looks like "you are SO stupid." And of course, after the exit he just made... I'd be kinda pissed at the irony, too. *G*
  • Every fight Ranma's had so far, it seems like we've never actually seen him make contact with his opponent.
  • Ha, Takahashi loves that "I thought you were hurt *poke*" "OWWW!" bit... She uses it again in Inuyasha, and it's almost exactly the same. Ranma should've yelled "LEAVE ME ALONE!" except he's not Richard Cox in the dub yet, so it wouldn't have been as good. ^_~
