Ranma ep 1.5: "Love Me to the Bone! The Compound Fracture of Akane's Heart!"
Summary | Dub & Animation | Notes & Comments
Random notes:
- BAHAHAHAHA Ranma's eating noises at the beginning are the best! Kappei got it goin' on.
- I can't believe Genma thought flattening himself against the door would work! Hee! Ranma's not THAT dumb. Nice "pat on the shoulder" he gives himself, too.
- A scene we don't see that often: Akane sparring with Soun. That's not in the manga, either. And I guess now we find out why: Akane is not good at working through her problems without getting emotional. Poor Soun. HA she goes all girly right away...
- One feels like one gets to know Nerima pretty well in these in-between shots.
- Genma is the only curse victim who changes back from being an animal and remains completely clothed. Which is for the best really.
- C'mon, just tell me that the fact that Ranma and Akane are walkin' around separately, brooding over how mean the other is to them, isn't cute as heck. Well, I suppose I'd do that if someone were picking on me all the time, too.
- Okay! NO ONE can claim that Akane gets mad at Ranma for no reason; she tries to be the mature one, and he slings an insult over his shoulder. Boy can't keep his mouth shut :P She stops herself from hitting him and so he takes advantage and twists the knife! That's right Akane - nobody's gonna blame you. ;)
- HA, it just occurred to me that the whole "promise not to hit in anger" lasted all of five minutes and never surfaces again. Useless!
- And now we pick up where the manga starts, with Ranma being dragged in to see Tofu. And now HE is really twisting the knife. *lol*
- Oh yeah, this is Tofu's first meeting with boy Ranma! He's really an odd duck.
- "ITTAI JANEE KA!" So that settles the "that hurts/that doesn't hurt" debate I was wondering about before, I guess, b/c there's no reason Ranma would yell "that doesn't hurt" and have Tofu react that way. *G* I wonder where I saw it translated that way - I'm SURE I did at one point...
- Ranma claims he doesn't enjoy fighting with Akane, that she gets mad at every little thing he does - he's really completely unaware of how he speaks to her. Not to deny that she gets mad a lot without giving him a chance, but when she DOES he tends to blow it by saying something stupid. Just a result of never having anyone teach him when to shut up, I guess, b/c he clearly doesn't do it to be malicious. I guess he does it for the attention. ;)
- *snerk* Tofu really seemed like he enjoyed smacking Ranma on the butt.
- And walking home, he taunts her and then jumps up to fight her, then won't let up until she DOES start to fight him! He says one thing and does another; genuinely perplexing boy, this Ranma Saotome.
- Aw, I've always loved the piggyback scene. Though I miss the bow-pull that's in the manga.
- Always had to wonder a little why Ranma stops eating and looks all uncomfy when Kasumi asks Akane to go by Tofu's. Possibly just 'cause of the interruption? Hmm who knows.
- What book is that that she read? Maybe they translated it in the manga. Is Kasumi borrowing these books b/c she's bored, b/c she wants to learn a little home-remedy stuff, or b/c she wants an excuse to go see Tofu? Then again if she wanted the excuse she could take it back herself. *G*
- Interesting how Ranma picks on Akane about everything BUT her crush on Tofu. His comment to her is not taunting at all, though she seems to take it that way a little (and who could blame her?).
- "Hen na ko" - *giggles*
- Ahhh, love that little old woman who waters the street.
- Check out Akane checkin' out another girl's boobs! I've been told that there is background chatter in the untranslated manga about "I didn't know Akane was a lesbian!" though I've never verified it. *G* That certainly does seem to be the reason they begin to cry at first...
- So Akane's admirer brigade lasts a whole 5 episodes before it's decided that it's a bad plot point. Just enjoying making note of that. ;)
- AHAHAHAHA! "Akane's watching us, you know." "No she isn't." So that makes it okay! XD It's not cheating if she's not looking!
- Ahh, see, now you can really see how Akane is related to Nabiki. Same melodramatic acting here. *G*
- Overdoing it a bit Akane? "You are too noble for this world!" And so he runs away crying. YES.
- Even I have to admit that those girls look adorable in their gym shorts. ^_~
- Hiroshi and Daisuke! This series's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern! I love those boys. One could call them Ranma's friends except that we only ever see them show up to pester him, badmouth him, or try to live vicariously through him since he's such a ladies' man. But every guy needs buddies! Personally I like Hiroshi better. I have no idea why, I guess I just go for the mussed-hair look.
- I love this scene. Ranma blushes, because Akane really is that cute (he doth protest far too much just now, especially given that he qualifies it with that "besides, she's off the market" kind of comment) and then BAM the baseball! Not only is the timing on that just classic, it's yet another perfect Kappei verbal sound effect. Heeheehee, I can watch that over and over...
- Akane's initial apology in this scene sounds really sincere. Although that's the tone of voice that Ranma tends to tune out, so I guess we can't be surprised that he's ignoring it.
- Pffft. Only Tofu would hire a panda as his part-time assistant. *G* "Not much of a resemblance, I'd say!" Weird sense of humour.
- They go much farther for the "Pandas can't talk" joke in this one than the manga. Interesting; they put off Genma's use of signs by a little bit in here too, he was definitely using them earlier than this in the manga.
- I would swear that Akane never actually poured Tofu's tea at all.
- Awww, poor Akane. You really don't see her just back down and leave like that very often. Once again Ranma is nearly sympathetic and not mocking at all about her feelings for Tofu, and he's quite taken aback by her reaction as she's going to leave, it seems.
- Lord, the look on his face when he assumes the old lady is who Tofu is interested in...! Ranma's got an odd sense of humour too. ;)
- Why is Akane still there? I thought she was going to leave after the phone call; I guess she has to stay to say hi to her sister.
