EEEEEE RYOUGA!! Okay, I got that out of my system. Really now. Funny thing is that the first time I watched this ep I got quite irritated with it. I was sitting there, enjoying the buildup between Akane and Ranma, and then in waltzes this new guy to throw EVERYTHING off. Boo Ryouga! Go away! I said. And now I just have to steal him for myself b/c he's the bestest best that ever there was!!! or something.
So I might not have ever seen "Mad Max" but don't try to tell me that the beginning of this ep bears no resemblance to it. And that music is just... psychotic. ;D Never noticed until this viewing that Ryouga's wearing gloves, too!
High drama with Ryouga throwing the cape and goggles off, but is he really sure he'll never need 'em again? Drama boy.
I love how he is like "this doesn't look like the place" but then goes down and presents them with the map as if he's SURE that it IS. Even gets annoyed when they ask if it's a map of Tokyo. "Of course!" He really has problems, and they're not just directional. Ryouga never plans in his head to assume he's in Tokyo. "Maybe I should ask in here" becomes "WHERE IS FURINKAN HIGH SCHOOL!?" just as everything else does. I don't know if it's pride, if it's stupidity, if he's so single-minded that it's the only thing that comes out of his mouth; but that's the funniest thing, is how he's mentally capable of asking for directions but vocally incapable. Not only that, but he's unaccountably hostile when he asks.
Stopping the boar with his umbrella = the sex.
I love the high drama of the ocean - and then the anti-suicide signs. :D
Topless Ranma-chan running around - Nabiki is taking far too much of an evil glee in the concept of dressing Ranma up. It says a lot about Ranma that they're able to guilt him into wearing a dress. I don't think Genma would put up with it. Of course this is just the first of many, many times of "crossdressing" for Ranma, and he's more and more willing each time...
Heehee! I love the casual insult of Akane that Ranma does when the clothes don't quite fit. This time I don't think he even meant to. Never noticed the look on Akane's face as Nabiki and Kasumi are pawing through her clothes. It's very amusing. XD Not a fan of this Wacky-Costume-Changes-During-the-Go-Game bit. Whose idea was that? --- Whoa - that's what Soun says, too. Huh.
My confusion over Japanese continues. This cow herder guy clearly says "Tokyo janee" when telling Ryouga that it's not Tokyo, hence "janee/janai" is a negative. WTF then, I give up; I will never figure it out without taking a class. *lol*
Oh Ryouga, you big stupid jerk. "Straight!" You really are stupid. But he even RUNS THROUGH TREES I love him. These noises are fantastic, too. ALL NIGHT LONG!

Cute, everyone wants Ranma to just wait. Hm, Ryouga's line is echoed by Akane - clearly that means they're meant to be! (yah.)
The student's showing no real surprise that Ranma's being chased around by Akane - clearly this is just as much an every day thing as we can infer from the fact that we don't even know WHY she's chasing him.
Ranma has mad skills. Avoids the Umbrella Of Doom quite nicely. In fact, the coolest thing about that umbrella stuff is the fact that not only does Ranma later instinctively dodge it without looking (including on the return when it's coming from behind), but so does Akane.
"I've been looking for you, Saotome Ranma." aw hell yeah he's sexy. (Look, I can only suppress my nature by so much.)
The way Akane asks "Do you know him?" every time is really, really cute. She says it exactly the same way each time, barring the addition of "Ne..." the second time.
Ranma's "thinkin'" posture is too cute, too. AUGH I AM DEAD FROM CUTE and this is "Ranma 1/2" which is not known for its shoujo factor. I need a new word other than "cute" or "adorable". And the stupid blank smile on his face! No wonder Ryouga gets annoyed with him. XD The wordless expressions coupled with the slight narration from Akane actually reminds of me of a Harpo and Chico Marx routine.
Ranma was TOTALLY gonna hug Ryouga there if Ryouga had been up for it. I swear.
I'm actually quite taken with this jazzy flute tune, here, while Ryouga and Ranma bicker/argue about the meeting place and time. I wonder if I have that piece on a soundtrack, and when else they use it?
"So what WERE you doing?" asks Ranma, and Ryouga basically answers everything BUT "I got lost". I want copies of those pictures of Li'l Ryouga in various Japanese places.
"Am I happy?" asks Ranma, and Akane is irritated. What else is new.
What is up with Ranma's memory? When you think about it, it's kinda weird that he forgets everything about Ryouga that way. It wasn't THAT long since he was in junior high school - he's only 16 - so it's just a bit odd. But I love his "Oh I remember!" moves.
Ryouga's charging, and Ranma holds up a hand to stop him. Those reflexes are SO HOT. As is Ryouga's snort of disdain (the ever-popular "che!") when Ranma runs off to get bread. I think while Ranma is gone, Ryouga and Akane should sit down and be like "Gawd, isn't he annoying? Oh I KNOW."
*giggles* Ryouga throws random "Kisama!"s in all over the place when addressing Ranma, for no particular reason.
When Akane asks Ranma "what's the meaning of this" over the bread, she calls him Ranma-kun. I think that's the only time I've heard her do it and I'm not sure it's not by mistake on the part of the show writers.
"I will never forget how I hate you for that curry bread!" has got to be the best line ever.
Awwww, Akane waits with Ranma for Ryouga to come back. Clearly they are meant to be. (yah.)
Ryouga wandering around in the sunset = the sex.
Awww, they love Ryouga in Shikoku. Perhaps he'll settle down there someday. And eat lots of rice. "No! I cannot!"
And a few thoughts on the dub:
I've never known what to think about the trend of performing certain dialects as extreme southern accents. The use of "To-key-yo" is exceptionally funny, IMO.
Changing Kasumi's line from "I'll draw a bath for you soon" to "let me go draw you a bath" sort of defeats the entire purpose of how Nabiki guilts Ranma into wearing Akane's clothes. It's what's in the Viz translated manga, though.
The dub has too many "Just you wait, Ranma!"s.
"Let's fight, Ranma!" How many times do people say that in this series? *G*
I love the fact that Ryouga will just run around going "where are you!? Where did you go!??!" He wuvs him. ;P
