In brief: A romantic comedy. Very much with the comedy. Your basic shoujo story: boy meets girl, falls for girl, has romantic rival, devotes the next few years of his life to winning girl's affections. One of the really nice things about this series though is that, unlike many shoujo series, its drama doesn't come from darkness or secrets. Rather, the drama is in the character angst, but for the most part the series is very light-hearted - yet smart and entertaining, and geared more towards adults than towards teenagers. It's also neat to finally see a series in which time passes, and the characters grow up - the only other shoujo-style manga I know of that does that is "Fruits Basket".
