Author's Notes

  • Disclaimer: No subtext was harmed in the writing of this story.
  • Title Origins: I would've liked to actually use "Deja Vu" but since that was the title of the ep this was based around, I couldn't. Obviously. So after a lot of thought I shrugged and went with the slogan on the sign above Mattie's office. I never entirely liked it 'cause, to me, it doesn't entirely fit. But whatcha gonna do... Never really liked the ep much anyway. ^_~
  • Episode References: Deja Vu All Over Again (der)
  • Random Info You'll Never Do Anything With: The reasons why I wrote this should be pretty clear: I was extremely dissatisfied with the handling of Joxer in the episode "Deja Vu All Over Again". The manner of Joxer/Annie's dismissal in the end didn't sit right with me. Why should Joxer, whose soul finds those of Xena and Gabrielle in each life just as they find each other, be forced out of their lives? Even willingly? The only way this could possibly sit right with me was if Annie's decision were based on her own wrong conclusions, and all the characters came to realize that later. Since, of course, that was not going to happen on the show, I figured I'd better write a fanfic. ;)
  • I guess my opinions on the X/G/J dynamic were pretty clear in this, too. I rooted for all three, though I leaned more heavily on the G/J pairing. I felt each one brought something unique, different, and needed to their triangle, and from the fact that, after Joxer was gone, Xena and Gab sank into this sort of quagmire of unlikability, I think I was right in that conviction... When it's just the two of them, there's something missing. I really, honestly have no problem with the X/G love itself, I just feel like Joxer gets dicked around and for no real good reason... What I wanted to see was no loss of love between X and G, just an inclusion for Joxer. Which is, of course, the message of this story. :)
  • By the way, I don't usually care much for Uber stories; I watch the show for the characters that are on it, not for characters who look like them and used to be them but AREN'T them. However, when the muse strikes...
  • Looking back at this story in retrospect, it's a bit gooshy, even if it does have a few good moments to it. Utter sap in some parts. 9_9 I always sort of wanted to write either a sequel or a series, about the developing relationship between the three of 'em in these lives, but never got around to it... Then they had that horrendous sequel, which basically says that Joxer HAS to be miserable and Xena and Gab will never care about anyone but each other, so I sort of lost interest in the whole thing. :P
