Where'd you get the idea for this?

Quite simply, from the show itself during season five. The interactions between Joxer and Gabrielle reached a point of questionability - beyond the previous, expected sort of "puppy-eyes" Joxer would give Gabrielle, and her general obliviousness. In Chakram, Joxer actually revealed to Gabrielle how he felt about her - and wouldn't let her give an answer in return. And so the relationship changed, and we, the viewers, didn't even know exactly how Gabrielle felt about him.

As the season continued, it became clear that there was a deliberate sexual tension between Gab and Joxer, and it was deliberately being played with. The foot-scene in Purity, the jealousy in Lyre, Lyre, Hearts on Fire, the dock-smooch in Married With Fishsticks.... All of these had echoes of past episodes and scenes between Xena and Gabrielle in earlier seasons. Unexpectedly, I began examining their relationship in an ambiguous way; I felt, and still feel, that during that time period it truly could have gone anywhere, in any direction, despite the direction that the show gave us.

There were enough Original Subtext sites out there, and enough "Joxer and Gabby should fall in luuuuurrrve" sites out there, that I felt a desire to do something a little different and sort of combine the two. So this site isn't a 'shipper site - it's a subtext site. It celebrates the ambiguity of the Joxer/Gab relationship in season five, and the parallels the "New" Subtext shares with the Original Subtext. I found it an interesting subject to explore, so I made a site for it, and to my knowledge it's still pretty much the only one out there. *G*
