What do you have against X/G Subtext?
Nothing. In fact I consider this site subtext-friendly, if not XG-subtext-focused. I see that subtext, I acknowledge its existence; I don't necessarily always think it's the best thing for the show or the characters, nor necessarily think it's well-written, but in essence I have nothing against it.
To elaborate somewhat: I didn't like the direction that the Original Subtext took after season three. Prior to that, I was fine with it, kind of enjoyed it, sort of got into the whole "three-way lurve" thing. After that, though, I thought it was downright cloying. I got very sick of seeing Xena and Gab having to reaffirm their bond every single episode, and giving each other doe-eyes. There were a lot of other things that happened during season four that I was unhappy with, not just the increase in gooshiness, but that was a part of it. It had nothing to do with the lesbian aspect of it - it had to do with the fact that the way it was written got on my nerves. By Fallen Angel I remember saying to my friends, "If I have to hear them say that they're going to be together forever in the Karmic Circle ONE MORE TIME, I will SCREAM!!" :P I also disliked the direction the characters were taking, and like some other people I knew, became of the opinion that the relationship between Xena and Gab was detrimental for both of them. So - I personally don't dislike Original Subtext - I've even written a few stories using it. I just prefer to see it, and write it, differently.
By coining the "New" Subtext term, I'm not trying to imply that this is the newer, improved, "Real" subtext to take anything else's place. I know I've said that before, but I just want to restate it. In my mind, there is no "better or worse" - there are personal opinions and preferences, but that's all. This is just a site for a differing opinion, and I do hope that it's enjoyed by those who visit.
