You thought it was just wishful thinking. But baby, you were wrong. *g* Because as season five unfolded, way back in late 1999, it was All About the Subtext. Now usually, when the term "subtext" is used in relation to the show Xena: Warrior Princess, it is assigned strictly to the "hidden relationship" of Xena and Gabrielle (ie, the Original Subtext). But that's not what season five was about, and it seems everyone - even the subtexters themselves - knew it. No, season five of Xena managed to take a situation with a character who was known to have been butt-crazy in love with another character for the past three years, and yet still give the relationship between them the same ambiguity, suggestiveness, innuendo, and even sexual tension that many appreciated between Xena and Gab. And thus, the "New" Subtext was born. ^_^ Although season five ended with Joxer aged 25 years and then gutted by Xena's estranged daughter - gee, I'm not bitter - and season six saw no mention of Joxer at all apart from a few misused cameos, the New Subtext lives on. I probably should change the name of it, but meh, this site has been established now. ^_~ So c'mon! Indulge, relive the fun of season five, open your mind to a new and mostly unexplored possibility.
