Other Subtexts?

A great deal of fanfiction focuses on pairings that weren't discussed here at all. Slash fics are quite popular in some circles, and there is a strong following for Ares/Joxer, Auto/Joxer, Auto/Jett, and a number of other combinations. There are some who feel that Xena and Callisto's mutual tension translates into a hot sexual desire. There's the now-disappeared Joxer and Perdicus Romantics Society website, devoted to exploring the relationship between two characters who had thirty seconds of screentime together. ^_~

Do these pairings count as subtext, however? That could be arguable. Xena and Callisto have a definite history, and Callisto's psychotic addiction to Xena seems to have a borderline masochistic sexuality to it; on the other hand, Jett and Ares have never even been onscreen together, but their mutual interests might suggest that they'd have a pretty hot sex life. In other words, anything is possible until the show says it isn't (and sometimes, the show could even be considered wrong *eg*).
