Is this entirely about Joxer?

Not in my mind, no. I watched a bit of the sixth season here and there and I really, really disliked what it turned into; in fact I'd seen it turning that way by the end of the fifth season and I didn't like it then, either. It's very upsetting to me that the show became about intense violence, sexuality, nudity, pseudo-Christianity (in which they offend both Christians and non-), and inconsistent characterizations. More than anything, in season six Xena and especially Gabrielle just seemed to me to be so... unhappy. I think that changed by the final third or so of the season (barring the finale), but most of the action was so dark that I just couldn't bear to watch it. Plus most of the familiar faces, outside of Ares and Aphrodite, were gone and I missed them.

So, I prefer to just hit the 'reset' button and put them back where, in my mind, they belong; with a familiar cast of supporting characters, a familiar landscape, and a nice little family unit with Xena and Gab raising Eve, preferably with some help from Joxer. Fill in the blanks as you like, but I like the characters to have a happy ending where they can, and just prior to TLFE seemed like a quite nice point to set that happy ending.
